The new Cambridge Dictionary word of the year for 2025 has been revealed: "parasocial" - defined as involving or relating to a connection that someone feels between themselves and a famous person they do not know.

Seems to FNN that this is more like 'paraesthesia' i.e. an abnormal sensation or hallucination of the senses.

Parasocials seem to have a parasocialite syndrome, pretending to live in a world they don't inhabit.

Frightening really that this is a 'word of the year' and surely a reflection of the fact that lots of people are losing their grip on reality.
