Sky News reports Israel's defence minister saying:

If Hamas terrorists do not lay down their arms and release all the hostages - they will be destroyed and Gaza will be razed.

But this will not be genocide according to the UK government's Foreign Secretary David Lammy:

In a letter, dated 1 September, he wrote "the crime of genocide occurs only where there is specific 'intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group.'

"The government has not concluded that Israel is acting with that intent."

The world's leading association of genocide scholars, as well as several Israeli human rights organisations, have already accused the country of genocide.

One can only imagine what would be said if Putin stated he was going to 'raze Kiev to the ground'.

That would be quite a different story.
