News that the BBC is to pay people to listen to/watch their podcasts has caused rival podcasters to send a letter to Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer.

According to Sky News, a signatory to the letter, this would have a "disastrous impact" on the UK's media market.

A spokesperson explained:

Paying people to access podcasts inverts the industry norms - normally you pay to subscribe to podcasts - but is clearly the way the industry is headed as most podcast content is agenda ridden drivel that costs virtually nothing to produce and broadcast.

BBC license payers are already funding our podcasts so why not give them some of their money back in exchange for listening to this stuff?
