Sky News reports on the 2025 Oscar ceremony:
...best supporting actress prize was won by Emilia Perez star Zoe Saldana, her first Oscar win and nomination.
One of the highest-grossing actresses ever, she cried out "Mommy, mommy", on stage, explaining her entire family was there with her. She became tearful at the end of her speech as she spoke of being "a proud child of immigrant parents".
Hello...
Everyone in the USA is a 'proud child of immigrants' from the founding fathers down. Perhaps Ms. Perez is not that familiar with US history?
Then again, not quite everyone. There are of course a few native Americans left who are the proud descendants of the original 'first nation' peoples.
But by and large everyone in the USA comes from immigrants whether voluntary or enforced so all this 'immigrant paretns' stuff all seems a little contrived.
