Following the news that CCTV footage has shown people using dangerous behaviour on railway crossings, Network Rail is to team up with AirBNB and Virgin Experiences to rent the crossings for 'special events'.
An AirBNB spokesperson told FNN:
Britian's railway crossings are a vastly underutilized and in-demand resource.
By not renting out crossings for events, the UK railway system is missing out on a valuable income stream.
A Virgin Experiences spokesperson commented:
There are all sorts of interesting things to do on a railway crossing including:
- having a picnic or barbecue
- holding a poetry reading
- webcamming yourself naked for a porn site
We will be selling vouchers for our new Crossing Experiences range both online and at Waitrose.
Network Rail have dismissed concerns that all these event bookings will impact train schedules as when any trains are actually running they don't run on time anyway, so what's the big deal?
