The UK G7 summit in Cornwall has prompted many to get married - why we don't know - but one of those was UK PM Boris Johnson who married his long-term partner in a low-key ceremony.
This ensured he had someone to hang out with at the summit as other world leaders distanced themselves from his antics and also meant that he had someone he could rely on to look after the partners of other world leaders, such as Jill Biden and Mr Merkel, while the big shots got on with solving the world's problems.
Mrs Johnson led the way as the spouses enjoyed tours of dormant Cornish fishing villages destroyed by EU fishing quotas and deserted tin mines. They visited some of the locations used by Sam Peckinpah in "Straw Dogs", a charming family film from the 1970s. A couple of tours had to be cancelled as the Cornish "mizzle" (miserable drizzle) confused Google maps and they were all re-routed to Lands End. The tours culminated in a visit to a Cornish pasty and pie factory during which all visitors wore masks.
Each partner was issued with their own specially emblazoned G7 jacket. Jill Biden's had the word "Love" on the back, while Mr Merkel's said "Vorsprung Durch Teknik" and Mrs Macron's jacket was simply yellow with no logo.
They were all also presented with a bag of Dorset Knobs, which have nothing to do with Cornwall, but was a nice touch and an unexpected boost for the Dorset Knob industry that has struggled during the pandemic.
