According to Sky News:

Overall, emissions of gases like carbon dioxide and methane from within the UK's borders fell by 5.4% in 2023 compared with 2022 levels.

A spokesperson for the UK Insitute of Power (UKIP) explained:

The fall in carbon emissions was largely due to a new economic tactic, namely raising the price of energy so that consumers had to cut back on consumption in order to afford the monthly cost of their electricity supply.

We expect raising energy prices to become the most potent way to reduce carbon emissions by forcing people to wear more clothes to stay warm and eat less to stay slim to save the NHS from the obesity epidemic.

Smart meter owners will also soon be subject to random restrictions on supply as we increasingly use these household 'trojan horses' to control how much energy people use according to our needs.

Anyone identified as a Brexit leave voter, a Trump supporter, right-wing, anti-semitic, a climate change denier, an old white man or transphobic will of course be first in line for energy cuts.
