Scotland is to introduce the world's first driverless bus on a route across the Forth road bridge from Ferrytoll park and ride in Fife to the Edinburgh Park train and tram interchange.
The new driverless bus uses the latest technology, including:
- rails - to ensure it runs safely with minimal opportunity for obstruction
- signals - to ensure it can be stopped and started from a central control system
- sonic buffers - to ensure it can stop if approaching an obstacle
- pantograph - to ensure it uses electric power but without the need for a costly onboard battery
Dr. Beeching was not available for comment.
Meanwhile, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has been criticized for his latest zoning initiative in London. In order to reduce carbon emissions, only driverless cars will be allowed to operate in the centre.
