Following on from the successful introduction of the VAR (Video-Assisted Referee) FIFA will now be offering a paid service called ISHGIR that can change match storylines.
ISHGIR (It Should Have Gone In Ref) replays near misses and shots that hit the crossbar to show them scoring a goal and then allows paid subscribers to vote for sticking with reality (i.e. no goal) or changing the near miss to a bona-fide goal.
We asked a FIFA spoeksperson to explain how it works:
Well. It's basically about money. When a near miss at goal occurs during a match, our technology presents the near miss as a goal. We then ask subscribers to the paid ISHGIR service to vote Goal or No-Goal for a nominal fee.
The vote that gains the most money is then taken as reality and the scoreline adjusted to reflect the will of the fans.
Now the storyline of every match is much more in the hands of the fans, empowering them to change the narrative of the match, and potentially rewarding players for near misses.
EU spokesperson Ursula Von Richthofen commented:
This technology will be banned in the EU where we prefer all our soccer games to be 0-0 draws. Unless a German team is playing when a win is the required outcome or a British team is playing when a loss is the preferred outcome. Vorsprung Durch Teknik!
