There was widespread celebration at NASA when the Mars Rover sent back the first ever pictures of an Amazon delivery by drone on Mars.
The short video shows a drone emerging from the Rover vehicle with a tiny Prime stickered parcel hanging from it. The drone hovers over a rock and deposits the parcel nearby to comply with covid distancing regulations on Mars.
Unconfirmed reports claim that a classified version of the video shows a small red hand reaching out from beneath the rock to claim the parcel and some minutes later putting it out again, presumably to return it. Unfortunately the Mars Rover does not support returns.
Amazon sleuths are reported to have found a product review from someone called "Mr. Mysteron" who claimed that the candy received 'tasted old and was not fit for purpose so I returned it'. A picture accompanying the review shows a small box containing 3 damaged Mars bars covered in red dust.
A spokesperson for Amazon told FNN:
This is a major milestone in the development of our drone-based delivery service as now, if you are a Prime subscriber that is, you can select Mars as a valid delivery destination. Returns are not supported for the obvious reason that the return shipping costs are astronomical.
A spokesperson for Elon Musk commented:
We congratulate NASA and Amazon on their achievement. Elon has commited to installing an electric charging point on Mars within the next year, even though Mars is some way beyond the range of any Tesla car at the moment, to demonstrate his total commitment to human migration to Mars by 2050.
