Sky News reports that the satirical newsreader Jonathan Pie is worried about free speech:
The satirist, who counts himself as being left-wing, continued: "I think the left have enabled a culture where people don't feel that they're able to express their views.
"The left-wing were the flag-bearers of cancel culture. And now it's sort of coming back to bite us in a terrifying way."
And he makes a point about the 'death of discourse', regularly made by many academics who have been cancelled or threatened with being cancelled for not 'getting with the program':
He added: "I think that's the problem... We have forgotten how to talk and listen to people that we fundamentally disagree with."
This Sky article focuses on free speech crackdowns in the USA and UK but curiously does not mention Russia, where of course there is no free speech according to the MSM, or the free speech crackdowns by Zelensky in Ukraine as detailed in (Ukrainian) Olga Baysha's book War, Peace, and Populist Discourse in Ukraine and (sanctioned)
In Konstantin Bondarenko's book The Joker:
He noted that these [Ukrainian] far-right groups “not only attacked opposition structures, but they also murdered former MP Oleg Kalashnikov and journalist Oleksiy Buzina in April 2015.”

Bondarenko was sanctioned by Zelensky - a step-up from just being 'cancelled'.
So Charlie Kirk is not the only person murdered for his discourse - free speech crackdowns and even murders are alive and well in other 'democracies' supported by the USA and UK.
