Tommy Robinson ‘unlawfully detained over political views’
Court hears police discriminated against far-Right activist by stopping him in Bentley that was not his own with £15k in cash
Robinson, who was on his way to Benidorm in a friend's Bentley with £15K in cash, was not stopped for his political views, according to the prosecution:
“It was his connection to others who are potentially involved in prohibited activities,” she argued. “It is not Mr Lennon’s views, to which we accept he is entitled.
“It is his notoriety for associating with individuals known for far-Right extremism, which can, of course, manifest in terrorism. Therefore, this does not violate the protected characteristic of his political beliefs.”
Ms Morris did not disclose which far-Right extremists Mr Robinson was suspected of being linked to.
She added: “In my submission it is a reasonable suspicion for the officer to have that Mr Lennon had links to far-Right activities... Therefore it is a reasonable suspicion to think that on his telephone there may be information relevant to acts of terrorism.”
We all may be connected to others who are potentially involved in prohibited activities, who really knows?
But giving someone your phone pin should reqiuire a warrant not just a 'suspicion' of right-wing links that, 'of course' can manifest in terrorism just as being Muslim could or being a Pakistani could manifest in grooming gang activity or being Jewish could manifest in genocidal tendencies.
It looks much more likely that Robinson was stopped because of who he is and the fact that he was driving a Bentley, which clearly no-one with right-wing views has the right to drive, especially if it belongs to someone else.
Luckily Elon Musk is funding Robinson's legal costs so this could drag on for a while.
