A study from the Pablo Escobar Foundation in Brazil has found that sharks off Brazil are reported to have up to 100 times the level of cocaine in their bodies than normally expected. This is right up there with Columbian sharks.

Just like wildlife off the Florida coast, Brazilian sharks have also become addicted to cocaine, presumably due to smugglers ditching their cocaine cargoes into the sea.

Naturalists say there are new shark species developing in Brazilian waters including:

  • The Snorter shark
  • The Great Whiteline shark
  • The Hammeredhead shark

These sharks can smell cocaine over vast oceanic distances, which may be why more surfers are being attacked by sharks in search of the white powder.
