As the Hungarian election gets closer, both sides are accusing the other of smear campaigns.

Politico reports:

Orbán’s rival accuses Kremlin of new smear blitz in Hungary election

While The Spectator newsletter reports:

Russia may also have to deal with the embarrassment of a growing scandal in Hungary. Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he has ordered an investigation into the ‘wiretapping’ of his foreign minister Peter Szijjarto. Over the weekend, the Washington Post reported that Szijjarto had been leaking sensitive information from EU negotiations to Moscow and had been calling his Russian counterpart regularly during breaks. Szijjarto insists the claims are ‘fake news’.

Is there ever going to be a non-interfered-in election or referendum in Europe ever?

It seems that if anyone vaguely right-wing is involved in the election then the smear campaigning steps up a notch.

It used to be left-wingers that were the targets - like Corbyn and the anti-semitic smears in the UK that put paid to his chance of ever becoming the British PM.

Now it's everyone.
