Wrexham University has sacked lecturer Dr Nigel Hunt for claiming that dual-language road signs (e.g. in English and Welsh) contain 'unintelligible information'. Social media has condemned his claim as xenophobic hate-speech and racist.

A spokesperson explained:

We had to sack Dr Hunt for stating the obvious as this is no longer permissable at British universities.

Clearly if you saw a road sign with the word 'Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoc' on it, there is no need to also put the words 'Railway Station' on the sign as well as that just confuses the hell out of drivers looking for the railway station.

Everyone knows what
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch means. Although I will admit that you would have to be careful not to hit the car in front as you tried to read it.

Also dual language signs keep our talented Welsh painters busy and if we reverted back to single language, 128 jobs would be lost at the Welsh Department of Transport.

The University said it hoped that Ryan Reynolds would buy it in order to raise its profile.
