Number of Britons leaving the UK higher than previously thought
The number of British nationals who left the UK last year has risen from 77,000 to 257,000, according to revised immigration statistics.
Estimates for net migration of British nationals were previously based on the International Passenger Survey, but the ONS said this had a very small sample size and had been "stretched beyond its original purpose".
This will be a boost to the government's 'one-in, one-out' immigration policy as lots more people have left than originally thought so they can justify more people coming in. Result!
But of course the real question is who is leaving, to go where and why?
Is it Ukrainians going home? Is it long-term migrants giving up on the UK? Is it wealthy people tired of the UK's tax regime?
Perhaps this would be rather more interesting than just the 'discovery' that the numbers have gone up.
