According to Sky News it is:
'Unusual' for so many banks to have issues at once - what could be behind it?
Ageing technology could be one of the reasons behind today's online banking problems, according to the senior editor of Business Insider (Chris Johnston).
"It's very hard to speculate on the causes... [but] it's unusual that it's affecting to many institutions," he adds.
It's not hard at all.
The cause is closing branches. You don't have to be a 'business insider' to know this - just a regular banking customer.
Branches have people in them. Not hackers or viruses or internet interruptions.
Most banks in the UK are shutting branches and moving online because they claim 'our customers want this' rather than our shareholders want this to reduce costs.
Yeah right.
