The BBC is being accused of election interference after David Aaronovitch, who presents Radio 4's Briefing Room show, posted on X:

If I was Biden I'd hurry up and have Trump murdered on the basis that he is a threat to America's security #SCOTUS.

The presenter has now deleted his post but only after being more energised about a 'right-wing pile on' than calling for someone to be murdered.

In the Reagan days, this was known as 'pre-emptive neutralization'.

Presumably the hope was that, ideally, some disaffected US right-winger would act on his words, preferably shouting something like:

This is for America. America will always come first.

Wait. Oh, we get it.

It's just another example of impartial BBC satire following in the tradition of That Was the Week That Was or Not the Nine O'Clock News.

It's really nothing more than an online milkshaking, like the call to throw acid in someone's face during the BREXIT campaign.

So that's alright then.
