A Jet2 flight from Rhodes to London was diverted after an altercation between a pensioner and the cabin crew over the fact that Jet2 did not serve free champagne. Although this appeared to be yet another example of 'cabin fever', FNN has discovered there is more to it than an argument over the in-flight menu.

We interviewed the pensioner on WhatsApp and this is what he told us:

There were no flights available that day from Rhodes to Munich, and I fancied a bratwurst, so I bought a one-way to London on Jet2. Then when we were over the Alps I started an argument with the flight attendant and just as I expected, the flight was diverted to Munich and I was taken off by German police. Result!

A Jet2 spokesperson commented:

We suspected this was all bogus as everyone knows we don't serve champagne on our flights - we're not Ryanair for God's sake!
