Albania’s prime minister has appointed an artificial intelligence-generated “minister” to tackle corruption and promote innovation in his new cabinet.

The new AI minister, officially named Diella - the female form of the word for sun in the Albanian language - was appointed on Friday and is a virtual entity.

The avatar for Diella could be Norman Wisdom in traditional Albanian dress, probably someone unknown to Microsoft, the creators of the bot, but popular in Albania.

The UK government is watching events in Albania closely as an AI-bot may be just the thing to replace 'Lord' Mandelson as the UK's ambassador to the USA.

Or the whole UK government for that matter. Surely AI could do a better job?
