Sky News reports:
Jewish comedian says shows cancelled as Gaza in the spotlight at Edinburgh Fringe.
The comedian, Rachel Creeger, (we don't say comedienne anymore) said of the Gaza situation:
The situation there is horrendous and distressing and painful for people of any number of religions and races… To be kind of scapegoated with dog whistles around that is clearly very, very unpleasant.
As unpleasant as it is for Russian athletes, musicians, ballerinas, skaters etc. who have been banned from all sorts of events just for being Russian.
But apparently fringe comedians believe they are some special class of people who shouldn't be subject to the kind of prejudice and Russophobic racism that Russian artists are being subjected to.
And Russia has not flattened Kiev to anything like the same scale as Gaza nor killed anywhere near the number of civilians, including children, that Israel has done in Gaza.
Admittedly Ms. Creeger is a British Jew and not an Israeli but that's just semantics when it comes to prejudice against individuals who are considered to be 'representative' of a regime, whether they support what that regime is doing or not.
Welcome the world of being cancelled through no fault of your own and suck it up like the Russian artists have been forced to do.
Reality is you can't be 'on the fringe' of anything in today's highly politicized and polarized world.
