Sky News reports:

Did Oasis impact the inflation data?

Some would argue the hype of this year's Oasis tour is over now - but it seems to still be affecting the UK's economic data.

Thousands of fans flocking to Edinburgh for the band's reunion tour shows in August are thought to have played a part in pushing up hotel prices, and in turn inflation.

FNN is aware of chaos theory and that a butterfly flapping in Brazil could trigger a tornado in Texas but this is ridiculous.

Talk about clutching at straws. Presumably someone soon will be claiming that Beatlemania caused the Cuban missile crisis.

"It's likely that an Oasis concert in Edinburgh on CPI collection date boosted one-night hotel stay prices this summer," financial analysis firm Pantheon Macroeconomics said.

Maybe the MSM thinks slapping this nonsense on the wonderwall will be the thing that saves the government from more accusations of fiscal mismanagement.
