The Dissident reports:
In May of last year, the EU slapped sanctions on German journalist Hüseyin Doğru and his media outlet Red Media as retribution for his reporting on Germany’s repression of pro-Palestine protestors and critical reporting on EU foreign policy.
Much like Jacques Baud, Doğru was sanctioned by not following the EU line on Israel, reporting 'inconvenient truths' and for his alleged 'Russian connections'.
These days, Russian connections can mean anything from having visited Russia in the past, to knowing someone who speaks Russian or even watching RT.
But this is no joke.
Jacobin [the magazine] noted that because of sanctions, “he has had no access to his accounts and is not allowed to travel,” and Doğru himself says:
He added, “My children are now in a humanitarian emergency situation. My wife has been placed in a de facto sanctioned position despite not being sanctioned herself. We cannot receive money. We cannot pay rent. We cannot buy food. We are facing now homeless because we are as of now literally not allowed to pay rent”.
Does anyone really think this is right and a commendable demonstration of 'EU values' in action?
Another reason why Brexit was the best thing for the UK, to distance itself from this nonsense.
