The Wall Street Journal has commented on the subliminal messages of President Trump replacing the portrait of Thomas Jefferson (one of the founding fathers of the United States) in the White House with his own personal role model.

Trump has replaced Jefferson with a portrait of Alfred E Neuman, another popular American who was famed for his sense of humour.

Born in 1956, Alfred E Neuman, is mainly associated with his MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) magazine.

A spokesperson explained the significance of the President's new portrait choice:

I think the President chose Mr Neuman because he was known as someone who can maintain a sense of humor while the world is collapsing around him.

He also has a 'soft-spot' for those Al Jaffee (RIP) 'fold-in' pages in the magazine as they remind him of the Playboy centerfolds of his youth.

The President is also known for quoting Mr Neuman whenever he can, for example:

  • Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now (to Kamala Harris)
  • Today, if you want to be a millionaire, it's best to start off as a billionaire (to Elon Musk)
  • Most people don't act stupid - it's the real thing (about the Biden administration)
