The Daily Mail reports in Peace Plan Pushback:

'Any credible and sustainable peace plan should first and foremost stop the killing and end the war, while not sowing the seeds for a future conflict,' Ms von der Leyen said.
'We have agreed on the main elements necessary for a just and lasting peace and Ukraine's sovereignty. Let me highlight three of them.
'First, borders cannot be changed by force.
'Second, as a sovereign nation there cannot be limitations on Ukraine's armed forces that would leave the country vulnerable to future attack and thereby also undermining European security.
'Third, the centrality of the European Union in securing peace for Ukraine must be fully reflected. Ukraine must have the freedom and sovereign right to choose its own destiny. They have chosen a European destiny.'
First, borders can be changed by force - Israel does it all the time - and the EU does little to stop that.
Second, limiting armed forces is not new. The EU President, being German, should remember that limits were put on Germany's forces (and Japan's for that matter) after Germany (and Japan) were defeated in WW2.
Third, as she well knows, only a proportion of Ukraine has 'chosen a European destiny' - mostly Ukrainians based in the western half of Ukraine who supported the Kiev coup.
She forgets that NATO planted the seed for the conflict by sowing it at the 2008 Bucharest Summit, where NATO stated that Ukraine would eventually become a member. They planted the seed and so they cannot be surprised at what it grew into.
And let's also not forget that the EU was not so keen to 'stop the killing' way back in 2022 when the war could have been ended soon after it began but for UK/EU/US meddling in the Istanbul peace process.
So this is all nonsense and Ukraine, and the world, deserve better than this from 'top' politicians.
