Sky News reports:

We've just been hearing from General Sir Richard Shirreff, former deputy supreme allied commander of NATO, who was left unimpressed by the outcomes of the Trump-Putin summit...

He says the "only way" that Ukraine will get any guarantee to stop Russia achieving its intent of continuing the war is receiving NATO membership...

"Meanwhile, the diplomatic dance will continue. Until Trump recognises that the only way to stop this war is to force Russia to accept what the West and what Ukraine wants, then nothing will change."

Does he not realise that the war started over the issue of Ukraine joining NATO?

Clearly not. As imposing the initiating problem cannot be a viable solution.

And since when do you 'force' another nuclear nation to do what someone else wants?

The General is living in la-la land.

This nonsense may go down well over gin and tonics at a Wiltshire dinner party of chattering classes but not in the real world.

Just more WW3 advocacy. Now that's unimpressive.
