The assassination of Ukranian nationalist politician Andriy Parubiy was essentially reported as a done deal: Russia must have done it and it was carefully planned.

For example, this detailed anti-Russian take on the event from the Latvian outlet Meduza (no wonder it's 'in trouble' according to its website):

On August 29, an assassin fired eight bullets at Ukrainian lawmaker Andriy Parubiy in Lviv, killing him instantly. Parubiy, the former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, had long been a target of Russian propaganda, and Ukrainian officials have already begun pointing to Moscow as the likely orchestrator of the killing.

...

According to Ukrainian officials, Parubiy’s murder was carefully planned over several months. “The perpetrator studied the victim’s movement schedule, mapped out a route, and prepared an escape plan,” the Ukrainian Security Service said.

Yet Sky News now reports this shocker:

In courtroom footage broadcast on television today, a Ukrainian man admitted to the murder and described it as "my personal revenge" against the state.

"I admit, I killed him. And I want to ask to be exchanged for prisoners of war so that I can go and find my son's body," told journalists from a glass cell.

When asked why Parubiy became the victim, he replied that the politician "was nearby".

So if he is not just some nutcase wrongly arrested, then how wrong could the anti-Russian media possibly be?

The murder was apparently done by a disgruntled Ukrainian and according to him, is about as random a crime as you can imagine.

Expect the conspiracy theories to begin regarding the suspect and his confession:

  • He is a patsy - like Lee Harvey Oswald
  • He is a 'manchurian candidate' - brainwashed in North Korea
  • He went mad after being smeared with Novichok by the FSB

He may even end up being found hung in his cell Epstein-style. Who knows.

But right now, the 'Russia is behind it' media has some explaining to do.
