Sky News reports:
UK 'ready to spend well over £100m' on possible deployment of British troops to Ukraine
In a lecture at London's Mansion House John Healey also said Vladimir Putin views Britain as his "number one enemy".
Which is probably quite right, especially as in the same speech:
Mr Healey trumpeted the UK's support for Ukraine, including a record £4.5bn in assistance this year, and taking over from the United States in co-chairing a wider group of nations that have been sending weapons and money to Kyiv.
"This is why President [Volodymyr] Zelensky calls the UK his closest ally," he said.
While the Russian threat to the UK consists mainly of cyberattacks, MI5/6 rhetoric and nonsense like the Skripals, UK Storm Shadow missiles supplied to Ukriane are used to blow up stuff in Russia and kill people.
Is Healey on another planet?
Why would Putin agree to troops from his 'number one enemy' on the ground in Ukraine as part of a peace deal?
Does nobody understand - not even John Healey - that the main reason for the invasion in 2022 was precisely to prevent NATO bases and troops on Russia's border with Ukraine, thus reducing the 'strike proximity' for a decapitation strike on Moscow?
John Mearsheimer and Jeffrey Sachs (and others) both understand this quite clearly but not the Defence Secretary of the UK.
Unless Russia is completely defeated in Ukraine and forced to surrender on its knees, like Germany in WW2, it seems inconceivable that Putin would agree to such a thing.
Not unless Putin welcomes a decapitation strike on himself from nationalists within Russia who already think he is too soft in his management of the Ukraine war.
So why is this nonsense being peddled in 'serious' speeches by top-level politicians in the UK?
It's just bonkers.
