Back in the 70s people flocked to Amsterdam to get unrestricted access to a variety of drugs due to the liberal attitude of the Dutch towards drug taking.
Now Scotland is following Amsterdam's lead by opening new 'shooting galleries' where addicts can safely source and use drugs while doing a little trainspotting nourished by a free supply of Irn-Bru and macaroon bars.
An uptick in drug tourism is expected to follow as holiday companies offer package tours to visit the new galleries as an alternative to the traditional art gallery.
According to The Spectator:
Scotland’s drug misuse deaths – the worst in Europe with a rate three times that of England – have long been a stain on the Scottish government’s record. Today it got even worse. The latest figures show a 12 per cent increase in drug deaths to 1,172, dashing any hope that last year’s dip in mortality meant the issue was easing.
...Three years ago, the Scottish government thought the answer was to ‘remove the stigma of drug use’ by effectively decriminalising it. In September 2021, Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain said those caught in possession of Class A drugs such as heroin could be dealt with using a police warning rather than prosecution. This effectively turned Scotland into a national tolerance zone for hard drugs.
Scottish drugs Czar, Rab C Nesbitt, told FNN:
Ah dinna hold wi no shooting galleries. It's messin wi ma heed. Anyone for a bevy?
