UK supermarkets are promoting crumpet with a new freebie giveaway sponsored by a leading crumpet maker.

A spokesperson for the Crumpet Marketing Board explained:

We wish to encourage everyone to try some crumpet at least once in their lives.

Participating supermarkets will give free crumpet to any shopper who qualifies by using the secret phrase:

I fancy some crumpet!

Bacon roll suppliers are also thinking of a similar promotion using the secret phrase I like makin' bacon to qualify for a roll with either red or brown sauce.
