Ahead of the impending summit between the USA and Russia, the Biden Administration has anounced a major change in policy regarding the Nordstream 2 pipeline.
Instead of trying to stop the pipeline being completed, the Biden administration is set to ask Russian President Putin to divert the pipeline endpoint from Germany and extend it over Scotland and then across the North Atlantic so it can be connected to the US power grid to supply Russian gas to the USA.
This will enable the US to benefit from cheap Russian gas while Germany will be forced to import more expensive US gas from the USA in order to makeup the shortfall from the transatlantic diversion of Nordstream 2.
Biden has stated that Germany will pay for the new pipeline extension in exchange for American-backed NATO protection from Russia. Wow! Now that's realpolitik for you...
A spokesperson for the Scottish First Minister told FNN:
Scotland welcomes the Nordstream 2 pipeline and especially the income from building the overhead pipeline across the highlands and the ongoing rental of peat bogs to sink the pipeline pylons into.
We also understand that part of the pipeline will be routed right across one of Donald Trump's flagship Scottish golf courses. We anticipate a lot of smelly leaks from this section of the pipeline.
