Pope Francis has has joined the line of people interfering in the US 2024 elections - yes, it's not just Russia - by asking US Catholics to vote and to 'choose the lesser evil':

You must choose the lesser evil. Who is the lesser evil? That lady, or that gentleman? I don't know.

Both are against life, be it the one that kicks out migrants, or the one that kills children.

The Pope still has millions of 'followers' in the USA - unlike Putin - and the papacy has not lost its touch when it comes to issuing pithy edicts.

One of its most famous was during the Cathar wars in France.

Faced with choosing who to kill and who to spare, when the city of Béziers was besieged and sacked for refusing to surrender its Cathar citizens, the papal legate is supposed to have advised the commander of the Catholic crusaders:

Kill them all. God will recognize his own.

After which thousands of people were massacred.

Something that would probably have happened anyway but was made easier by this pragmatic advice from the papal legate.

Let's hope choosing the lesser evil at election 2024 doesn't result in the same thing.
