EU leaders seem determined to compete for relevance as the search for peace in Ukraine drags on.
The UK's Starmer is proposing 'military hubs' - a euphemism for FOBs - in Ukraine based on over £200 million of additional military funding, knowing full well that this would be unacceptable to Russia.
In fact an adversary on their doorstep would be unacceptable to the USA, as Marco Rubio clearly pointed out:
This is the Western Hemisphere. This is where we live — and we’re not going to allow the Western Hemisphere to be a base of operation for adversaries, competitors, and rivals of the United States.
Why should Russia be any different to the USA?
Then there's Italy's Meloni proposing that the EU should appoint a special envoy to talk to Russia, according to Politico:

"I believe the time has come for Europe to also speak with Russia,” Meloni told a press conference in Rome on Friday. "If Europe speaks to only one of the two sides on the field, I fear that the contribution it can make will be limited.”
The right thing to do, only it's about 3 years and hundreds of thousands of dead Russians and Ukrainians too late.
The Mekon (Germany's Merz) is also in the game, according to The Telegraph:

The star item of Merz’s package, however, was a commitment that Germany will finance the production of long-range missiles on Ukrainian soil. Berlin will invest directly into the Ukrainian arms industry, providing a much-needed boost to the country’s industry to help its ability to supply itself with weapons quickly, rather than simply waiting for western donations.
Just what Ukraine needs - more Oreshnik targets.
Yap, yap, yap...
