No one really believes in Russia's defeat in the conflict with Ukraine. This was stated by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever. "Who really believes that Russia will be defeated at the Ukraine? These are fairy tales, complete illusions," he said in an interview with the newspaper La Libre. 

Finally some European leaders are starting to state what has been obvious to everyone else - that Russian defeat in Ukraine is highly unlikely and not even desirable.

Similarly stealing Russian assets held by western institutions like Euroclear is unprecedented.

As the Belgian PM pointed out, even Germany's overseas assets were not requisitioned until after WW2.
