Sky News reports on statements by UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper:
Immigration has brought 'huge benefits' - but should be 'controlled and managed', argues home secretary
What is not clear is whether she is talking about legal or illegal immigration since they seem to be conflated.
Wasn't the Windrush generation and waves of Asian immigration for example, that benefited the country, legal immigration?
The people coming in on skills visas are legal immigrants as should everyone else be on a visa.
But this is not the problem.
The problem is whether the vast number of illegal immigrants coming across the channel, unlike legal immigrants controlled by visas, are in fact bringing 'huge benefits' to the UK and at no cost to the state.
The UK is becoming an 'island of strangers' and Reform is gaining voter share precisely because no-one is addressing this question honestly.
