The UN's World Tourism Organisation has told Sky News that 2024 could be a record year for international arrivals across the globe.
But FNN has learened that the 'over-tourism' problems of Amsterdam, Dubrovnik and Venice - for example - are not being experienced everywhere.
A spokesperson for Woking town council told FNN:
Here in Woking we have a train station, a Travelodge and we are close to the M25 London ring road but we hardly get any tourists except for people on their way to Heathrow using the Railair bus.
The only local benefit is a few pounds spent in the M&S Simply Food store that is next to the bus stop.
So we are asking the government to build a canal from the river Thames to Woking so that we can build a dock for cruise ships to berth at and bring our town some business.
