'Manufactured panic': Immigration not near top of most people's concerns, poll suggests

The cost of living, health, crime, and housing are much higher on people's lists of personal worries, a YouGov survey has suggested.

So why willingly add another one?

Apparently tens or hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants coming to the UK is a 'manufactured panic' - presumably manufactured by 'right-wing thugs' - not layering another problem on top of those we already have.

Saeema Syeda, of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI), said the poll "proves what we've been saying all along - there is no immigration crisis".

She said: "It's a manufactured panic, pushed by some politicians and parts of the media to distract from what actually matters to people.

"Across our communities, we share the same priorities - making ends meet, accessing healthcare, decent schools and secure homes. We need to end scapegoating and look for solutions."

The solution is simple:

Stop importing more problems and focus on solving the problems people already have instead of admitting loads more people to exacerbate them.

This is not scapegoating, it's just common sense.

But maybe not to ostriches.
