Meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Kyiv's allies scrambled to coordinate a response to Donald Trump's plan, which even took some within the US government by surprise.
Our US correspondent Mark Stone explains that behind the controversial plan was a sanctioned Russian official - Kirill Dmitriev - and a real estate mogul-come-envoy Steve Witkoff.
Note the undermining use of 'by surprise' (i.e. it's not a coherent plan) and then that those reposponsible for the plan are a sanctioned Russian and a 'real estate mogul-come-envoy'.
The fact that most Russians at any significant level of government are sanctioned by the USA and Witkoff was known to be a 'real estate mogul' from the beginning of his involvement with Ukraine seems to have escaped Sky News and will presumably come as news to its readers as well.
Otherwise, why the need to 'explain' this?
Europe is scrambling because depite supplying lots of money and weapons to provoke, provision and prolong the war to kill lots more Russians and Ukrainians, they are not supposed to be an actual combatant so who cares what they think?
