The New York Times reported that Vivek Murthy, the US surgeon general, wants social media to carry warning labels to advise parents that platforms could damage kids’ mental health.

FNN has learned that this will take the form of an initial splash screen that will precede every social media access, whether via Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok whatever, that will show young people in straight-jackets, with gnarled hands, in hospital beds and so on - much like the dire COVID warnings during the pandemic - to warn users that social media, just like smoking, is both addictive and dangerous.

EU spokesperson, Ursula Von Richthofen told FNN:

We are mandating such splash screens in the EU primarily for any social media we determine as 'right-leaning' such as Elon Musk's X and any other platforms we think are helping right-wing parties to gain ground in the EU or are against the war in Ukraine.
