Sky News reports:
Angela Rayner is a "great British success story" and it is a "mistake" for people to be briefing against her, Sir Keir Starmer has said.
The prime minister strongly defended his deputy after she came under scrutiny over her tax affairs.
Ms Rayner is clearly a role model for cost-of-living crisis Britons to emulate:
- She's avoided council tax on a second home
- She's paid less stamp duty on a house sale
- She's got a job with free accommodation in central London
No doubt about it. Ms Rayner is a role model for the girls of today.
She's broken no laws but perhaps her sense of ethics needs some refinement.
As the PM says: she gives working class children, particularly girls, a real sense of aspiration.
Ms Rayner also stands on the shoulders of giants ... like former Deputy Prime Minister John "Two Jags" Prescott (RIP) widely remembered for punching a protestor who threw an egg at him.
