The BBC was forced to apologize after a presenter on its breakfast show was caught stifling her laughter after interviewing a gay person who was speaking remotely with a rainbow flag and a picture of Princess Diana in the background.
A BBC spokesperson commented:
We have reminded the presenter in question of her responsibilities to respect pictures of rainbows as symbols of LGBT freedom of expression in modern Britain. A freedom that has been hard-won from innumerable individual sacrifices over the centuries.
As a result, and to ensure the show reflects real British values, our Director General has mandated that it will now be broadcast from the studio located in the Wigan Empire, which I believe is somewhere north of Islington, until such time as the presenters have learned their lesson.
Chairman of the Broadcasters Organization National Committee (BONC), Bill "Battler" Heslop, told FNN:
Just because someone has a picture of a rainbow on display doesn't mean they're gay and should be mocked. It could be just a child's painting from school for f**ks sake!
