The UN seems to be confused over the term 'self-determination':

"The peoples of Greenland, as a distinct people, are entitled to the full and free exercise of their right to self-determination, a core purpose of the United Nations, enshrined in Article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which the United States has been a party since 1992, as well as in articles 3 and 4 of the UN Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples.”
And yet...

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has rejected Russia’s attempts to justify the occupation of Crimea and Donbas by invoking the right of nations to self-determination, according to Ukrinform.
The peoples of Greenland, a distinct people within the Kingdom of Denmark, are apparenty different from the peoples of the Donbass and Crimea, a distinct people within the state of Ukraine.
Not only does this nonsense ignore the recent referendum in Crimea - naturally declared illegal by international observers who declined to participate in case the result went the wrong way and was valid - but also the previous Crimean referendum in 1991.
Presumably if and when there is a referendum about Greenland becoming a part of the USA, the result will also be ignored if the people do not vote the 'right' way?
The UN is becoming a laughing stock with its blatant double standards.
